How Discipline Ruins You & The Better Alternative

First, it’s important to note– you are wired a specific way and understanding that is the most important thing before committing to anything.

Now, I’m going to share my wired-struggle and how I’m leveraging it into productivity and life.

I hate using my “personality type” because it feels equivalent to saying I’m a Taurus and we’re too stubborn to learn. Often, it’s nothing but an empty and limiting belief you chain yourself up to and end up living out.

But there is truth to understanding REAL quirks in your particular brain.

For example, no matter what I’m doing or where I am, my brain looks for the next BIG thing. That might sound good on paper, but it has a bipolar navigation attached to it.

One day I’m all in on my writing, the next I’m off to try (insert new different cooler better thing).

I sabotage myself regularly, in the name of desire.

Which never lasts and leads to failure.

I can’t watch entrepreneurial videos without wanting to cut my shit off in that same moment and instantly chase that new shiny opportunity. If I see people moving to a hot new state with tons of action– I’m instantly tempted to move on a whim and quit everything I have going on.

I do this so fast, I don’t notice til I’ve paid the price of impulsivity.

My brain is the little brother, who wants whatever cooler thing big brother does.

And I ALWAYS FAIL WHEN I CHASE THIS IMPULSE.

But what can I do?

Buckle down and resist– that just leads to an explosion down the line and probably and even bigger one, thanks to storing and building up energy.

Instead, you have to channel whatever curse you’re born to.

If my little brother brain can’t stop doing this scan and go thing, I need to funnel it into some craft, and by draining it, it’ll have less hold over me in my life.

THAT’S WHAT NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT LIFE.

The only real “mentors” you can follow are those that won YOUR same war. Otherwise, you’ll die in battle as another pawn.

Rather than disciplining and saying “no” to a muscle or quirk that has so much control over you, leverage it into something like your craft or career. Find things that rely on what you have, otherwise you’ll always start over at the mercy of your own brain.

What you resist persists, so embrace it and use it.

Peacocks have colorful personalities but still won’t succeed…

So, your type is 1% of the population? If that’s true why are you so basic?

Every imaginable test to measure a person in any way has become its own religion, with a cult like following.

Theres a good reason for it, but it went too far.

Success boils down to authenticity— and providing a service that is needed or useful. But your ability to do that comes down to are you in the right field? And to figure that out, we need to know what you’re wired for.

In comes this exploding industry: personality psychology.

Regardless of your identity-language, they’ve got something for everyone. Do you prefer 4 letters to sum up your soul? Try mbti.

Or maybe you feel a connection with mythical creatures and find yourself able to talk to animals (you can understand it, but don’t speak it)– in this case, zodiac might explain why horses neigh at you #centaur.

Some only believe in science, if facts turn you on, the whitecoats use something called the big5.

Theres an endless amount of tests, and they all claim to be “the test” but what’s the point of all this?

To get better, and most don’t.

Instead, the instinct is to peacock. It’s to take whatever your type is and flaunt. I’m this, that’s how we are, Entps debate a lot, Sagittarius are just direct like that, blah, blah, blah.

An entire industry rendered useless because no one cares about improving.

And it’s hard not to do, don’t get it twisted.

We all want something to point to and say, “there– that is what I am.”

But no test could actually measure an individual. Your task as a student of human nature is one, to thoroughly explore yourself and then to create yourself. All of us are on solo journeys and to become yourself, you have to learn about yourself.

These tests are just vague outlines, its on you to color it all in.

And why should you go through the pain and suffering to do this? Because real fulfillment comes from something that is deep within you. When you connect to that, success is a byproduct.

I lost my last wish, and then the genie came…

When it comes to my goals, I feel like I’ve lost something… and I have.

I grew up taking short cuts.

I was good at it.

Instead of study, I’d cheat.

Instead of read, I’d pitch.

Instead of work, I’d persuade (others to do it).

When I finally got out of school, my plan was to take on the world in this same way– outthink everyone, cut to the front of the line, and just live however I want.

So when I got off the station and found myself at rock bottom with nothing to show, total shock would be an understatement to say the least.

I don’t know you.

Maybe cleverness is what your life is missing. But what I can tell you is if you’ve hit any kind of block in life or your stuck on a level, keep this in mind:

What got you here, won’t take you there.

It’s a universal law, I think it exists to keep us evolving. Point is– switch it up. I know younger me would be surprised to see me as I am.

I’m WAAAY LESS of a dreamer these days- my goals are strictly practical: skills and financial. I lost the, “wanting shit to happen” and I gained my own desire to take the wheel.

Then my life improved.

Weird.

When I did the opposite of my default I not only developed and got ahead, but I find myself more fulfilled.

The lesson here?

If you’re stuck, do something different.

Cancel Culture Cultivator: EGO

This time the algorithm went too far.

You all know the game. Mindlessly open youtube and continue the practiced ritual of surrendering to the internet powers that be.

Ever see one of those rise and fall videos? Basically, they cover celebrities who made it, then through the perils of fame— lost it all. Many of whom, lost a lot more than money.

It’s cringe to watch.

But as a devoted student of human nature, I felt compelled to learn from their nevermore life experiences.

Deep down, I always wanted fame.

And I know, It’s an empty pursuit, it’ll never make u happy, it doesn’t fill the emptiness— yeah I get all that Edgar Allen Poet.

I know its superficial and it only appeals to my grandiosity.

But life is short, and given my personality– it’d be a fun way to pass the time.

So this post, is more of a reminder for why I’ll need certain things in place to keep me from being in one of those YouTube videos.

The way I see it, these individuals fell from grace not because of ego, but because of a lack of channeling it properly.

They didn’t have an outlet to commit to other than the attention, so fame became they’re one and only. And that leads to the whole, “I’m awesome because I’m me” which is as dangerous as it gets.

A healthier alternative would be commitment to a skill. Sounds lame, doesn’t it?

It kinda is. But this is the only way to never lose the power one may gain:

Mastery.

A lot of our spiritual emptiness can be chalked up to disconnection from our work. Our brains are wired for mastery, and today— we have none.

The people who fell, lost the thing that brought them initial success (skill). So, in an effort to get it back they try to outdo old habits and end up being attention seeking and obnoxious.

To fill the emptiness, we end up jumping from new thing to thing to restart. And with money and fame, this can be fun for a little while (I’ll let you know). But we still need something to hold us down—

Especially when we rebound.

When the high is over, where the hell will you land?

Hopefully not rock bottom.

The answer here is a balanced diet.

I’m not cutting out either, I’m cutting in both.

You don’t have to choose one thing– you just have prioritize how you define yourself. I’m not switching up, I’ll have that rockstar life. BUT, now I’ll make sure there is constant improvement and refinement over my craft.

We are all transformed through our work.

The only thing that can actually cancel your success is ego. So, tie it to the right thing.

The UN-originals: common experiences & trendi beliefs

The best tell of someone who’s never traveled, experienced new things, and probably does nothing with their life— is RIGID worldviews.

People with strong opinions are usually idiots.

Yeah, I bet I’ll offend a lot with that one, but idiots are easily offended and they always have the numbers.

Today, it’s popular to have “strong” beliefs.

Everyone, regardless of side, has an opinion and really, it’s far more of a conviction. Notice the self-righteousness looming in the air?

And if you do identify with a side, I don’t care about your group opinion, because you’re not an independent thinker.

That’s the price of having a mascot, your representative will tell you how to respond to this–just give it a month.

Before you point your squirt gun at me, perhaps you’d like to know where I stand, you know, so you have better aim.

I was one of you once.

A social outcast, who was proudly anti-society, and had a take on every topic. I also fit all the qualifications to be a member– I was broke, depressed, and stupid. Stupid, because I didn’t do shit, but sat there and watered my darkness with sad songs and conspiracy theories.

I was an idiot.

And of course, in being an idiot, I couldn’t see that I was one. That’s just how it works, instead I could only see the flaws of the universe, and how everything was for nothing… what a party.

But as my wallets eating disorder grew, and my depression darko’d, I knew that despite my Mr.Robot beliefs, I would have to join the machine I protested against to live any kind of decent.

That’s right, I had to become a functioning member of society, Dun dun duuuuuhhhhhn.

And so I did.

And guess what, the world is awesome you imbeciles. The more you stay in your closet home office, the more you see darkness. But that isn’t how it is, that’s just the coat hanger cutting off circulation to your brain.

Want life? Want that dream world where nothing matters?

Step outside, and leave your lunacy. Get some vitamin D you pale psychopaths.

Sides don’t matter. Your opinions are cheap AF and uninteresting. You’re so boring its revolting.

You haven’t done shit, and everyone thinks exactly as you do, so put down the tik tok and go do something.

Travel, try new things, try… not to be who you are.

There’s only one way to play this game we’ve incarnated into, and that is to be original. It’s a lonely endeavor, but gaaatdamn it’s so worth it.
